Where is located Stavros beach?

Stavros beach area is 25 minutes away from Chania International Airport 17 km northeast of Chania, and 35 minutes from the port of Souda, Crete, on the northern tip of Akrotiri. In the area there is a big steep mountain in the shape of a camel, standing opposite the port of the village. The mountain has become popular from the scenes of the 1964 film “Zorba the Greek“, where Anthony Quinn danced the famous sirtaki!

Stavros village has 2 beaches. The main beach is on the east of the village. It is a small semicircular lagoon, completely protected from the winds of the area. The bay has white sand and turquoise shallow waters. The shallow waters of this beach make it an ideal beach

for kids. The second beach is located northwest of the village, only 200 meters from the main beach. It is quieter than the main beach and if the weather allows it, its a great option.

Before you leave don’t forget to take a walk on the small peninsula that separates the two beaches, as it houses the ruins of the Venetian quarry from which the limestone was excavated for the construction of the walls of the city of Chania.

Stavros beach in general

The most wonderful element of Stavros is its famous beach: a narrow line of sand, dominated by a huge rock, the famous background in the film "Zorba the Greek". The beach is surrounded by a circular bay with a port at the edge, and right next to it, you will find an organized and awarded with the "Blue Flag" beach where you can enjoy the sea and sun.

The centre of Stavros is built next to the sandy beach and is the right place to enjoy your meal or coffee at one of the restaurants, tavernas and cafes on the waterfront. There you can find mini-market and snack bars.

Next to Stavros, there are many beaches where you can go swimming. In Kalathas beach, you have the ability to take lessons of water skiing, windsurfing and scuba diving. You will also find a canteen and a restaurant built on the beach, as well as a beach volley court. Tersanas sandy beach is another alternative beach for swimming and relaxation.

The contrast of the wild landscape of the mountain with the beautiful quiet beach, make Stavros beach a unique place for swimming. As expected, the beach is well organized and all possible services are provided. On the beach, there is a canteen, while on the opposite side of the street and in other parts of the village there are taverns next to the sea.
